About the Studio of Steve Ross and Patti Calvert

Steve’s studio is in Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ, a friendly community located along the Jersey Shore about 50 miles south of New York City. The surrounding area is bustling with beach goers, outdoor recreation, and plenty of fishing boats. Steve enjoys painting on location and while at home depending on the weather. Sometimes he can even be seen painting while parked in his car. Steve especially enjoys working on landscape and seascape paintings which might involve wildlife or a more man-made setting such as houses or buildings. His goal is to take the viewer to an interesting place that is based on real life or sometimes to take the viewer to a new place that can stimulate one’s imagination. He enjoys many different styles of painting including realism, impressionism, modernism and abstract. He has also recently been working on animal portraits including cats and dogs.

Steve and Patti both enjoy working with various designs and techniques for their polymer clay artwork. Some of their designs are inspired from places that they have visited and other places that they would like to visit in the future. Landscapes and seascapes are also used in some of their pieces including inspiration from geologic formations. The clay jewelry is designed for people of all ages: girls, boys, men and women and is intended to be fun for everyone. The clay is made of many different colors - it is durable, lightweight and waterproof which makes it very appealing

The "Macaroon Shop Bakery" is one of the best bakeries on the Jersey Shore. I had the opportunity to make an illustration for them which was imprinted onto the side of their cookie container which they are using for frozen macaroon cookies and also for the mail order shipping of their cookies. If you are ever on the Jersey Shore in Monmouth County, NJ they are well worth the visit. They have a delicious variety of cookies, cakes and danishes. They are located on Main Street in Avon-by-the-Sea, NJ near the Shark River Bridge.
